Obituary

Wilma Rule, age 95, the faithful wife of the late David Eugene Rule, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, at her home in Stanton, Kentucky. She was born on Sunday, May 3, 1931, in Morris Fork, Kentucky, to the late Letcher Thompson and the late Myrtle Turner Thompson. Wilma was a cherished member of the First Presbyterian Church of Stanton since 1957, dedicating her life to her faith and community. Through the years, she actively participated in the church's Women Missionary Society, where her kind heart and generous spirit shone brightly. An avid reader, Wilma found solace in the pages of her Bible and enjoyed non-fiction works. Her love for literature extended to the timeless writings of Shakespeare, which she often reflected on. Wilma found joy in nature, sitting outside, basking in the warmth of the sun, and observing the vibrant birds and wildlife that graced her home. Music was another of her passions; she deeply appreciated classical compositions, with Beethoven's masterpieces resonating in her soul. Wilma dedicated time to helping in Powell County's Head Start program, ensuring others had the opportunity to thrive. She cherished the memories of her life with her husband, especially the time they spent together at their cabin in Breathitt County. Those moments surrounded by nature and shared laughs were precious to her. As a devoted wife, Wilma embodied kindness and love, and her generous nature made a lasting impact on those around her. As a loving mother, her years with her daughter, Esther, were a blessing that will continue to resonate in her family's hearts. Wilma's faith as a Christian was evident in her actions. She was incredibly supportive of her husband’s church responsibilities, spending countless hours assisting him and preparing for her role as a devoted Sunday School teacher. Wilma's life was a testament to the fruits of the Holy Spirit, radiating compassion and grace in all she did. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by three brothers: Virgil Thompson, Philip Wayne Thompson, and Benjamin Harrison Thompson; and one sister, Evalee Edwards. Wilma is survived by her daughter, Esther Teresa (Arvis Ray) Kearns of Stanton; and three sisters: Ruby Riley, Ruth Sebastian, and Shirley Bowman, all of Stanton.
