He was born in Bowen, Kentucky, on March 17, 1940, to the late Rodney Clayton Crabtree and the late Ibbie Hughes Crabtree. Shirley dedicated his career as a refrigeration specialist at A&P Company, where he honed his technical skills and developed a reputation for reliability. A proud member of the Stanton Masonic Lodge #352 since 1963, he also contributed to the community as a member of the National Turkey Foundation and the Northfork Bow Hunters Club. His weekends were often spent immersed in the great outdoors, where he found joy in hunting deer and turkeys and honing his aim in trap shooting. Shirley had a deep-rooted passion for agriculture and took great pride in cultivating tobacco. Along with his wife, they nurtured several vegetable gardens that thrived under their care. Shirley played a key role in building the baseball field at Bowen and cherished many seasons of coaching kids while supporting Powell County Baseball. His remarkable carpentry skills were evident in the many houses he helped build over the years, showcasing both his craftsmanship and dedication to his craft. Known for his easygoing nature, Shirley approached life with a relaxed demeanor that put everyone at ease. His kind heart led him to extend a helping hand to those in need, always seeking to uplift others. Above all, Shirley cherished his family, holding a special place in his heart for his beloved wife of 67 years, to whom he remained fiercely loyal and devoted, affirming their bond every day.
