John Henry Moore, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Irvine, Kentucky. He was born on Sunday, April 7, 1946, in Campton, Kentucky, to the late Jesse Moore and the late Idie Elkins Moore. He was the widower of his late wife, Wanda Cockerham Moore, with whom he was married for 50 years. John was a sincere Christian and minister of the gospel, expressing his beliefs in the Pentecostal Christian faith. He absolutely, above everything, loved to squirrel hunt. He also liked to hunt rabbits and was a true mountain man at heart. When attending church and on other occasions, he took great enjoyment in singing, loving music about his savior. He enjoyed talking on the C.B. radio quite often, and he was affectionately known by the handle Blue Goose. In addition to his wife and parents, John is preceded in death by four brothers: Frank Moore, Dewey Raymond Moore, Wardie Moore, and Reed Louis Moore; three sisters: Josephine Patton, Della Patton and Mary Dickey; one grandchild, Chelsey Moore and a special friend Johnny Marlowe. He is survived by five sons: John H (April) Moore, Jr. of London, Jessie C. Moore of Stanton, Donald R. (Angie) Moore of Mt. Sterling, Frankie L. (Lola) Moore of Mt. Sterling, and Dexter W. Moore of Mt. Sterling; two daughters: Rosa (Clint) Hall of Clay City and Wanda L. Moore of Mt. Sterling; one brother, Ron Moore; three sisters: Elizabeth Maloney, Patricia (William) Lykins and Mildred Golden Mitchell, seven grandchildren: Donald R. Moore, Anthony Moore, Josh Moore, Samantha Shields, Zachary Moore, Matthew Moore, and Sha-Kayla Rayney; and 15 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, in Stanton. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Richard Rift will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Burial will be held at Stonegate Cemetery in Stanton, with John H. Moore, Jr., Donald R. Moore, Dexter W. Moore, Anthony Moore, Josh Moore, and Billy Dickey serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jonathan Marlowe, Johnny Ray Marlowe, Porter Dickey, and Ron Moore. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hearne Funeral Home of Stanton.
