Jeffery Scott "Bear Dog" Watkins, age 57, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026, at his home in Clay City, Kentucky, surrounded by his family. He was born on Wednesday, November 13, 1968, in Newport, Kentucky, to Donnie Watkins and the late Maxine Smith. Jeffery was a lifelong over-the-road trucker who spent the majority of his career hauling cattle. He remained loyal to the Peterbilt truck brand and traveled all over the United States. Jeffery cherished the opportunity to see the beautiful scenery along the way. In addition to trucking, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle with friends. Jeffery had a deep love for his children and grandchildren, often attending their athletic events and taking great pride in their accomplishments. Known for his sense of humor, he loved to joke around and play pranks on others. Once Jeffery made up his mind about something, he was steadfast. He was kind, generous, and would do anything for his family. In addition to his father. Jeffery is survived by his stepfather, Chester Smith of Jeffersonville; his stepmother, Mary Watkins of Jackson; his girlfriend, Jessica Rogers of Clay City; two sons: Justin (Elizabeth) Lawson of Jeffersonville, and Dustin (Kayla) Watkins of Clay City; three daughters: Jessica (Matthew) Lyle of Morehead, Amber (Justin) Everman and Brixlee Watkins, both of Clay City; one brother, J.R. (Amy) Smith of Jeffersonville; six sisters: Donna Lisa Crabtree of Clay City, Bridget (Chris) Willoughby of Jeffersonville, Cathy (David) Dunn of Mt. Sterling, Kristen (Dale) Fugate of Jackson, Kelly (Kenny) Gaines of Manchester, and Carrie (Brandon) Patterson of Clay City; and thirteen grandchildren: Scotlyn Lawson, Hunter Bradshaw, Triton Bradshaw, Jezreel Lyle, Liam Lyle, Jes-lynn Lyle, Carson Ellison, Emma Watkins, Braxton Watkins, Bailee Watkins, Landon Everman, Jasper Everman, and June Everman. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Robert Rice will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. Burial will be held at Bear Dog's Watkins Cemetery in Clay City, Kentucky, with Hunter Bradshaw, Triton Bradshaw, Carson Ellison, Braxton Watkins, Landon Everman, Matthew Lyle, Michael Whitehurst, and David Hubbard serving as active pallbearers. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hearne Funeral Home of Stanton.
