James Arthur Shuler, age 92, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at his home in Clay City, Kentucky. He was born on Saturday, October 28, 1933, in Beattyville, Kentucky, to the late Wesley Lee Shuler and the late Mertie Gross Shuler. After dedicating 28 years to Walker Construction Company, James retired, leaving behind a legacy marked by hard work and significant contributions to the construction industry. Throughout his career, he not only played a vital role in numerous projects but also worked on the gas pipeline, showcasing his versatility and expertise. Beyond his professional achievements, James found fulfillment in the nurturing embrace of rural life, where he enjoyed being a farmer. On his farm, he cultivated tobacco and tended to his cattle, embodying the resilience of an agricultural steward. This dual commitment to both construction and farming illustrates not only his unwavering work ethic but also his profound connection to the land and the community that shaped him. His life's work will be remembered not just for the structures he helped build, but for the deep roots he established in his community. In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Montgomery Shuler. He is survived by three sons: Bobby Ray (Leslie) Shuler, of Jeffersonville, Danny Lee (Debbie) Shuler, of Berea, and Ricky Don (Angie) Shuler, of Richmond; six grandchildren: Keith (Destinee) Shuler, Stacey Shuler, Amanda (Steve) Goosey, Brandon (Brandi) Shuler, Tosha (Thomas) McClure, and Ashley (Jake Knox) Shuler; and nine great-grandchildren: Tyler Kuhn, Zachary Kuhn, Madison Kuhn, Corden Wesley McClure, Kylie Bleu McClure, Brayden Ray Shuler, Brooklyn Gail Shuler, Branson Shuler, and Memphis Shuler. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. George Sparks will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. Burial will be held at Stonegate Cemetery in Stanton, with Keith Shuler, Brandon Shuler, Tyler Kuhn, Zachary Kuhn, Thomas McClure, and Jake Knox serving as active pallbearers. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hearne Funeral Home of Stanton.
