Obituary

Forest Delno Martin, age 92, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky. He was born on Tuesday, February 20, 1934, in Knowlton, Kentucky, to the late Lawrence "Hoppy" Martin and the late Annie Brandenburg Martin. Forest served in the United States Army and worked for Chrysler Motor Company as a mechanic technician. He had a deep passion for automotive craftsmanship, spending countless hours tinkering with cars and reveling in the thrill of drag racing. In the early 1960's, Forest proudly managed the bustling Big Oaks Gas Station, a central hub for locals and travelers alike. Each September, he eagerly awaited his favorite time of year—an extravagant pig roast at his home, where friends and colleagues from his motocross adventures gathered to celebrate good food and camaraderie. Forest's love for the outdoors extended beyond racing, as he cherished the moments spent hunting on his expansive property in northern Michigan. He embodied the spirit of a true man’s man—confident, strong, and deeply rooted in his passions. Forest's zest for life was infectious; he was always ready with a smile and a kind word. He loved to give popcorn away as gifts to his friends and was affectionately known as "the popcorn guy". Above all, Forest held an unwavering love for his wife, a bond that shone brightly in every aspect of his life. In addition to his parents, Forest is preceded in death by his wife, Alma Raye Martin; one brother, Weeden Martin; three sisters, Eloise Ison, Chrystal Knox, and Dorothy Tipton. He is survived by two sons, Steve (Brian) Martin of Frenchburg, and Bobby Lynn Fouch of Madison Heights, Michigan; one daughter, Katie Miller; one sister, Brenda Hood of Clay City; ten grandchildren: Ellie May Miller, Forrest Miller, Silas Miller, Nathan Miller, Cameron Martin, Preston Martin, Racheal Martin, Caiden Martin, Nicholas Fouch, and Christopher Fouch; and one great-grandchild, George Forest Martin. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Greg Webb will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
