Carl Raymond Baker, age 78, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in Clay City, Kentucky. He was born in Clay City on November 10, 1946, to the late Sidney Baker, Sr., and the late Anna Mae Larrison Baker. Raymond devoted his life to seeing Powell County Athletics succeed. He was a former coach of the Clay City Indians, who were affiliated with the Powell County Little League Basketball Program. Also, he coached baseball in the Powell County Little League Baseball system. Raymond was a former assistant coach with the Powell County Middle School Girls Basketball Team. He was a KHSAA Basketball official and also officiated numerous Little League games. Raymond was a Little League baseball umpire and operated the scoreboard for Powell County High School's basketball and football games for many years. He worked and retired from Rockwell International, where he served as a machinist. Upon retirement, Raymond went to work for Kentucky Pool Supplies, where he operated a delivery truck. Lastly, he worked for CNR Asphalt Company for some time, operating a dump truck. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, loving the produce it yielded. In Raymond's spare time, he loved working with wood and creating various items. In addition to his parents, Raymond is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Elaine Roe Baker and seven brother: Ray Baker, Everette Baker, Charles Baker, Kelly Baker, Lewis Baker, Gary Baker and Sidney Baker, Jr. He is survived by two daughters: Glenda (Edward) Hurst of Clay City and Stephanie Lockett of Columbia, South Carolina; one brother, Sammy (Kaye) Baker of Alabaster, Alabama; one sister, Anna Belle Haddix of Clay City; six grandchildren: Amanda (Jason) Vires, Ritchie Howell, Carl (Katlyn) Howell, Hunter Ward, Cati (Alex) Zahora, and Casey (Brooklyn) Hurst; six great-grandchildren: Audrey Howell, Zander Vires, Eli Howell, Annie Zahora, Leighton Hurst, R.J. Zahora; one special nephew, Bill (Shelly) Russell of Clarksville, Ohio; one special niece, Rosalyn (Lee Everett) Russell Waynesville, Ohio; a host of additional nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral Services, officiated by Carl Howell with a eulogy presented by Monroe Jones, will be held directly after visitation on Tuesday at 3:00 P.M. Burial will be at West Bend Cemetery in Clay City, with Carl Howell, Ritchie Howell, Hunter Ward, Casey Hurst, Jason Vires and Alex Zahora serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Russell, Reece Foster, Monroe Jones, Lynn Roe, and Mitchell Haggard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hearne Funeral Home of Stanton.
